Same NES formula as everywhere else: full-time and part-time employees accrue 4 weeks of paid annual leave per year, or 2.923 hours per week on a standard 38-hour week. Casuals don’t accrue paid annual leave — they receive casual loading instead.

Long Service Leave in Victoria — the Real Point of Difference
Victoria has one of the shortest qualifying periods in the country. Under the Long Service Leave Act 2018 (Vic):
- Employees can take or be paid out LSL after just 7 years of continuous employment (down from 10 years under the old 1992 Act)
- LSL accrues at 1 week for every 60 weeks worked — roughly 0.867 weeks per year
- Full-time, part-time, casual, and seasonal employees are all covered
- If employment ends before 7 years, LSL is generally forfeited — Victoria doesn't have the same early pro-rata provisions some other states have
Worked example: An employee with 12 years of continuous service has worked 624 weeks (52 × 12). Their LSL = 624 ÷ 60 = 10.4 weeks.
Curious how this compares? See NSW's 10-year LSL rule, ACT's 7-year entitlement, or QLD's pro-rata conditions.
Public Holidays in Victoria
VIC observes the national public holidays plus state-specific ones (Labour Day in March, Melbourne Cup Day, King's Birthday). Check the Business Victoria public holidays page for the current year's exact dates before planning leave.

Lucas Gibney
I build simple, accurate tools to help Australian employees understand their workplace entitlements — starting with annual leave. I created this calculator after noticing how often people got confused about their leave balance, especially with pro-rata calculations, casual loading, and the small differences between states and awards. Every calculation here is based on the real NES formula from the Fair Work Act, not a rough guess. My focus is on keeping these tools accurate, easy to use, and genuinely useful — so you can check your entitlements in seconds.
